Experts have found that in a year the volume of energy consumption in the world reaches 100-110 billion. kWh. The share of mining in Russia reaches from 2.5 to 3 percent. At the same time, the official estimate gives this figure less than one percent.
The analytical center reported that household mining of digital assets is an acute problem in regions where cheap electricity tariffs are observed.
For example, in the Irkutsk region, the indicator for 2021 has become significantly higher than in 2020. The growth was over 50%.
As a result, there were large-scale loads on the electrical networks, which led to equipment failure. There is also a more serious problem with cross-subsidization in the energy sector. In addition, suppliers have to buy the necessary amount of electricity at prices that are not regulated. This is the only way to cover the unplanned demand of the population.
The analytical center proposes to start transparently regulating commercial mining in order to legalize and establish a variety of tariffs for the population, which will depend on the amount of electricity consumed.
